I know, it’s been WAY TOO LONG since I last posted, but I guess my last post “Sounds Like Calvin Harris” had some infringement to it, which is why I had to delete it.
Anyway, other reasons why I’ve been slacking on writing so much is because I have been trying to work on music / got a day job.
I guess the only way to make up for it is to give you all a small preview of the demos I have been working on. Just a warning, all of the songs are not complete, they are just rough sketches of what I’ve been working on.
The first demo is just an idea I got by re-working a Jackson 5 sample. I like the direction it’s heading in, but need to decide what the vocals will be. MC? Female vocals? Male? Any suggestions?
The second demo is this remix of “Bounce” by MSTRKRFT. The original sample I used to play around with in this one is “You’re The One For Me” by D-Train. After talking it over with my friend Mike (from Black Holes) I’ve decided to scratch the whole remix in general, but to still try and use the sample for an original, because, let’s be honest, the sample is soo cool!
In other news, I’m going to New York for the first time Thursday, November 20th! If you’re out there feel free to give me a holler. I’ll be there ’til the Saturday, the 22nd.
‘ll be playing a show the night of the 20th, with friends French Horn Rebellion. They’re music is super fun and they’re great guys. If you haven’t heard of them, be sure to check them out!
From the information I’ve been reading on both artists it turns out Calvin Harris originally produced this song called “Off And On” for Irish, electronica singer Róisín Murphy. She sung on the original demo, but in the end decided that the song was “too poppy” and different from the sound she was aiming for on her new album “Overpowered”. The demo soon leaked and created a lot of buzz. The song remained unreleased, but then then British singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor took on the song for her new upcoming album.
Sophie Ellis-Bextor
Most people seem to think Róisín’s version is more “On” and Sophie’s is “Off”, but it’s hard for me to say.
Sounds Like Calvin Harris exclusive
The only thing better than a song produced by Calvin Harris is a song that’s both produced AND remixed by Calvin Harris. I love busting this song out whenever possible in my sets. It’s super catchy and danceable and I’m not going to lie, I like it a lot more than both the originals.
I know Holy Ghost has already had their name out there for awhile, but I’m not going to lie, they’re one of my favorite groups to come in the last year or so. Since they produce a sound that has a special place in my heart, it would only be right for me to post about them.
I’ve always been inspired by the disco era and Holy Ghost definitely takes elements from the genre and add their own unique style. They add enough danceable melodies and emotion it can make anyone want to cry on the dance floor.
Sounds Like Color exclusive question: What sub-genre would best describe Holy Ghost!?
Here is a clip of the band working in the studio on their single “Hold On”. Oh what? Who is that sitting in the opening shot? Oh that’s only the chubbiest man in dance music, DFA label co-owner and Mr. LCD himself, James Murphy helping with production. If anyone can lead the Nü-Disco revolution it’d be J. Murphy.

I figured that my first non-Kid Color related post should not only be about a Chicago artist, but one of my best friends.
My good friend/roommate Mike Perry (El Topo) and Harry Hart just recently formed the electro/fidget house fusion duo Black Holes.
They first made they appearance on the blogosphere by having their remix of Chicago act Hollywood Holt’s “Caked Up” posted by DJ/label owner Franki Chan on his own iheartcomix blog. Check out the post here.
Anyway, I know both Harry and Mike personally, and they definitely know their shit. They’re with out a doubt going to be gigging everywhere soon, so you should definitely check them out now.
I don’t spin too much fidget house, but I know what I like. And I definitely like Black Holes.
I finished this awhile ago, but figured I should throw it on here anyway. This was the mix that I really wanted people to get a good feeling for my style and track selection. I got some good reception from the whole mix who take a listen and see what you think.
Since I’m still young in the whole nightlife and club scene, I decided to call the mix Carded & DisCarded. Not to mention that’s the title of one of my favorite Freaks & Geeks episodes.

Here is one of my first projects. I’m still working on completing it and will probably still be working on it ’til days on end. Or at least until I run out of Daft Punk songs and Spank Rock acapellas. But the idea came from taking two of my favorite artists and fusing them together. You can simply call them “mashups”, but to be honest, I edited them so they could be more than just a simple acapella layered on top of a track.
Hey everyone! It’s been a long time since I’ve had any kinda of site of my own. My computer was stolen last New Year’s Eve and that it had all my website information on it, which basically meant I had to rebuild my website from scratch. So I ditched Tree House Party website and now present to you Sounds Like Color! Just think of this blog as Tree House Party 2.0 .
I’m gonna be posting up mixes, remixes, mashups, and exclusive tracks. So if there’s anything you’d like me to post, send it to me via E-mail. This will also be a place where I let you know where I’m gonna be playing, touring, hangin’ out. So if you’re ever in the area, feel free to hit me up!
